International Women’s Day 2019 – A message to my daughters.

A message to my two fiercely independent, strong willed daughters on International Women’s Day 💕

Being mummy to you both (and your big brother) is single handedly my proudest achievement. Right now as I write this you are ten months and eight years old respectively. Molly-Kate you love all the Bobo’s, “Bar Bar” (the big fecking purple T-Rex) and waving to the birds out the window. Ella your top three favourite colours are “unicorn, galaxy and rainbow”, you love camogie, you have the kindest little soul; but the same attitude as me. Your poor dad having to put up with that twice eh! But before longer than I would hope, you will be grown women.

For your futures I wish that you both grow up in a society where you have the same chances and opportunities to succeed as anyone else, in whatever you decide to do and that being a women does not hinder that.

I want you both to know that although I teach you being kind is cool; kindness should never be a replacement for strength. You can be be both kind and strong together. You are strong girls and I have no doubt you will grow into even stronger women.

You should always stick up for your beliefs and hold your values as high as the heavens. Surround yourself with women and men who influence you so positively and bring out the very best in you.

Aim to make a difference in this world and leave it a little better than the place it was when you entered it. Feed the birds, volunteer or just remember to recycle!

Always know that beauty has nothing to do with the size or shape of anything other than the organ that beats inside your chest. That there is no correlation between your bra size and IQ; and we all have wobbly bits. Please learn to love them and continue to eat the yummy cupcakes, life is too short.

As the saying goes “your contribution to the universe may not be something you do, but someone you raise”, I hope that when your grown adults I have done my job right. I hope that I have raised you with strength, compassion and grace because that’s what our world needs more of.

I love you both to the moon and back ❤️

Mummy x
